If you've been anywhere near an electrical store recently and have seen the range of new TVs on offer, you'll may have noticed it's almost impossible to buy a standard (4x3 format) TV anymore. Almost everything you see will be a flat panel LCD or Plasma TV. Most will be labeled 'HD Ready' and all will be in the widescreen format (16x9).
Perhaps you're lucky enough to already own an 'HD Ready' TV and if you have a sky box, you may already be watching HD TV.
High Definition is a reality now.
So What is HD (High Definition)?
High definition gives you around a 500% improvement in picture quality. The quality and improvement over standard video can only be described as stunning.
Is my Wedding Video filmed in High Definition?
Yes if you upgrade to High Definition, otherwise we will film your Wedding in Standard Definition Digital Video.
Can you put an HD version of my wedding video onto DVD?
High Definition video gives you up to five times more resolution and as a result, the size of the video files are five times larger. Fitting this large amount of video onto a standard DVD is just not possible.
What are Blu-ray Discs?
In order to give you High Definition, a new 'super DVD' was released some time ago. It's especially designed for High Definition Video. These new discs are called Blu-ray Discs.
Can I play Blu-ray Discs on my DVD player?
Blu-ray Discs can't be played on a standard DVD player. You need a Blu-ray player in order to view them. The Playstation 3 is also a Blu-ray player.
How much does a Blu-Ray player cost?
Blu-ray players are now available in electrical retailers for around £250. Like all new technology, the players are initially quite expensive, but will drop in price quite quickly, just as DVD players did.
Alternatively, you can play Blu-ray Discs on a Sony Playstation 3. We recommend this as the best value option as you also get the benefit of the games console, internet connectivity and more.
Whichever player you choose, you’ll also need an HD Ready TV.
Most of the Hollywood film studios including Disney, are now releasing their films on Blu-ray Disc, and are now working through their back catalogue for Blu-ray release.
How much does it cost to upgrade?
On top of whatever package you choose, we charge £120 for an upgrade to High Definition. For this, your Wedding will be filmed and edited in high definition, you will receive two copies of the Wedding on High Definition blu Ray Discs, we will also provide 3 standard DVD’s for those people who do not yet have a Blu-Ray player.
So, is it worth it?
You wedding video is not just for today - it's for tomorrow as well. It's a document of one of the most important days in your life. You and your family will want to watch it for many years to come.
Even if you do not plan on buying a Blu-Ray player soon, the chances are that you will have one in the future and you will then be able to play back your upgraded blu-ray discs. Remember, we also supply you with standard DVD’s to accompany your high def discs.
Over the next few years, with the switch over to digital, many homes will have an HD TV. Most of the top Holywood Movie Studios have backed Blue-ray Disc as the new format for viewing videos. The transition is happening now, with players available and dropping in price already.
Although standard DVDs will not disappear for a few years to come, the writing is already on the wall.
